*Harry Potter* Winter Camp: Day 4

And day 4 is done! Today we learnt about "textures" of foods, centaurs and made wands...cool hey :)
Here are some pics of what went down:

Quick review of taste, and then we learnt texture, followed by make your own "textured" snack!

Some of the ingredients :)

Then we made our own 'centaurs'

And finished off with making wands...

Quick review to finish off with...

And finally, the last few minutes were used to make their "Owl Post" postcards, where the students write to Harry Potter telling them what they liked most about the day

Tomorrow is our last day...yippee! Then I will be posting all the lesson plans and power-points presentations and worksheets :)

*Harry Potter* Winter Camp: Day 3

Day 3 came and went without too much stress. The kids left tired and out of breath after a fun filled morning of Harry Potter style olympiic games!

*Harry Potter* Winter Camp: Day 2

And day 2 has come and gone...thank goodness! The kids were a little harder to get motivated today, but I'll blame that on the weather and not me :)

Today we made Potions (and learnt "tastes") and learnt about magical creatures...fun fun fun!

Our *Postions*:

salt water = fish pee
honey = dirt
coke = unicorn blood
black coffee = fish brains
tabasco = spider blood
lemony water = dragon pee

Planning their potions

"Tasting" one of the other groups potions and deciphering what went into it!

Animal Hierarchy game; rock paper scissors to advance :) Always works!

Stay tuned for all the lesson plans and materials for all of our camp's lessons :)

*Harry Potter* Winter Camp: Day 1

Today marked the start of one of my school's Winter Camp. Weeks of planning and preparation led us to today and I'm relieved to say it went really well.

Apart from the fact that only 24 of the 40 Students registered students showed up, it went down without too many hitches. Our theme for the camp (along with just about every other Public School in Daejeon, maybe even in South Korea) is Harry Potter. Thanks so much to waygook.org for the fabulous ideas and basic materials for this super cool theme.

Here are some pictures from the first day. When my camp is finished I will be posting all my materials and lesson plans here on the site under the Life in South Korea menu tab at the top of our site :) So keep checking back for more ideas!

*To the rest of the English Teachers here still doing School/Hermes Camps, good luck! Enjoy these days of finishing at 12!*

The school banner that gets hauled out every camp :)

Snacks for the camp and lessons (yay for teaching Potions!)

The kid's getting settled into their groups

Our 6 groups; "G-G", "Hero", "Red Cat","Sky Blue", "Boys" & "Apple"...original?

Owl Post: At the end of each day the kids write down what they liked about the camp and why.

Name tags...

Workbooks for the students

So one day down, 4 more days to go :)

Farmboy's Summer Camp!

Being with EPIK, each and evert Native English teacher will have to make/design/participate/teach a camp (of 40 hours) in both the Summer and the Winter Vacation.
What you do is up to you, most schools go the boring old fashioned route and follow the camp plans of old, using the same games and activities "Let's cook", "seasons", "animals" etc.
Here is what went down @Farmboy's school:

Summer Camp Lesson Plans & ideas

When it comes to designing your Summer Camp, you have 2 choices. You can either go the easy route, or the hard route. The easy route involves slightly modifying the previous years Summer Camp (which is usually over done, and the kids know all of the activities) and the hard route involves designing your own camp. This is what I did here at one of my schools. We chose the theme Pirates.

I have posted a link to my lesson plans, power points, ideas etc. Please feel free to use anything/adapt anything where you see fit!
*but please please please acknowledge me where possible..after all I didn't sit here for hours planning everything for my own health and goodwill :)*

Kyochon Summer English Camp~PIRATES~

Today officially marks the opening of my summer camp, which will have a Pirate theme..YAY...and not some over-done and boring bunch of lessons devised by ancient and decaying English Teachers...instead we will have movies, pirate olympics, plays, make-your-own pirate crew and flag making sessions out of T-shirts, treasure hunts and of course hiking to the secrest location of a certain special prize!

So I sit here at my desk, while the students argue over who will sit where, and while every single one of the 6 adults present decide over where the "English Camp' banner will go in the classroom. We are starting the camp with an Opening Ceremony~ which involves me honouring the Principle and so forth as well as a few ice breakers. We are also watching one of the Pirates of the Carribbean movies which is 2 1/2 hours long, so that means we need to cram our opening ceremony into 30 minutes...quiet impossible when the Principle is 20 minutes late and the kids are getting rowdy.

I sit here quietly, getting menatlly prepared for what is going to be a wild ride...So let the games begin!
